Gulai Lemak Petai Kikis

Star Q

I really have to thank a friend for reminding me of this very old and traditional recipe.  I have actually forgotten about this dish, one which my mum used to make with different types of fish be they fresh water fish or your normal everyday fish caught from the sea.

Ikan Bakar Ramadhan

Star Q

The name Ikan Bakar Ramadhan (Ramadhan Grilled Fish) is a suitable name for this dish given that I actually made time to prepare it, considering the fact that it is quite difficult to prepare; as far as I am concerned.

Ketupat Sotong - Stuffed Squids

Star Q

There are times when I have the urge to try something new or something that I have longed to make but have never had the opportunity to do so.  Cooking something that I have never cooked before and with no background knowledge of what the dish actually tastes like, can be quite stressful.

Lala Kimchi

Star Q

I have always wanted to prepare a few Korean dishes but have never had the exposure of any sort to them.  Even when there is this new Korean food outlet in one of the malls in the state capital, I am still unable to sample any of them because most of them contain seafood which I am somewhat allergic to.

Prawn Sambal with Tapioca

Star Q

A  month has gone without me making any entry into this blog and I have been eager to write down about some of the things I cooked.  I haven't been able to do so because there was something wrong with my laptop.

Simple Fish Soup

Star Q

The holidays in December saw me having a few episodes of binge eating, not so much on the amount of food I ate but more on the types of food.  I actually found a lot of happiness and enjoyment in foods that contained coconut milk, lots of butter, cheese and what-have-you.

Whitebait Fritters with Nuoc Cham

Star Q

I used to eat a lot of whitebait during my childhood years where my late mum would be clever enough to create recipes using these little fish.  Nowadays, I realize two things about whitebait; one is based on the frequency of the fish appearing in our menu when I was young, I suppose it was plentiful then.  Secondly, the fish must be dwindling in numbers now because I am lucky if I can buy them even once in three months at the market!

Laksa Sarawak Parte Dos

Star Q

It has been quite some time since I had the pleasure of enjoying a bowl of Laksa Sarawak.  The last time I made it (can't remember when) I prepared it from scratch even when many of my Sarawak friends told me that it was much easier to use the ready-made spice mix.

Rampai Makanan Laut Rompin

Star Q

Last weekend my wife went for a family day outing with her siblings, their spouses and offspring.  I chose not to tag along because I had just came back from a four-day course in Johor Bahru which sucked out almost ninety percent of my energy.

Ikan Merah Bakar

Star Q

Cockles!  That was the first thing on my mind that day when my wife asked me what we would be preparing for lunch.  It has been quite a while since I cooked cockles mainly due to the bad reputation the press had been circulating about them.

Pasta Makanan Laut

Star Q

We have all but gotten a bit tired of having spaghetti carbonara, so much so that my kids don't request for them to be prepared anymore.  They tell me that with the instant carbonara sauces on sale (with many different brand names flooding the market!), they too can now make spaghetti carbonara on their own (even when I tell them never to use canned when you can easily make it from scratch!)

Fish and Leek Pie

Star Q

My children always get the better of me when it comes to food, especially when they know that I am able to prepare the dishes that they want; be they from what I have stashed away at the back of my mind or by merely surfing through the net for recipes!

Gulai Nasi Dagang

Star Q

Every time I eat Nasi Dagang I hear Rosmaria Abdul Hamid singing the song titled "Nasi Dagang" in my head.  I will not tell you about the origins of Nasi Dagang but suffice to say that it is one of my favourite dishes, especially the fish gravy.

Panko Crusted Salmon

Star Q

If there is one type of protein that I love more than any other type, it must be fish.  I eat fish six days a week and on one of those days when my wife decides to cook chicken or beef or anything else other than fish, I would still want fish as a side dish.

Sotong Goreng Cili Padi

Star Q

There is nothing that beats a hot and spicy dish especially one that contains fish or chicken.  My family seems to adore fish or chicken fried with some birds eye chillies.  There is something about the aroma and also the spiciness of the dish that encourages them to eat heartily.

Kerabu Kacang Kelisa Dengan Sotong

Star Q
As I have mentioned in my earlier entries, I have been inundated with courses for the past eight weeks or so, so much so that the food I ate at all the venues have caught up with me in more ways than one.  Firstly, there is my increase waistline and secondly, there is that slight distaste for any dish that resembles hotel food.  In short, I miss simple, home prepared food.

Lelapan : My Version

Star Q

During the second half of this year I was fortunate enough to have been asked to attend three phases of courses which enabled me to get to know a couple of interesting people from the different states in Malaysia, including some very interesting individuals from Sarawak.

Kerabu Kedondong

Star Q
Recently, there was a small gathering in conjunction with Eid Mubarak held at one of our neighbor's house.  Prior to the gathering, nearby neighbours were encouraged to come over to help with the preparation of food and drinks.

Sometimes Simple Is Best

Star Q
Ever get te feeling that you simply just don't know what to prepare for lunch or dinner for your family?  Ever had that feeling that you at a loss for ideas even though you have a long list of recipes in your repertoire? Well, there is bound to be one of those days!

Grilled Dory with Bechamel Sauce

Star Q
Well, Ramadhan is here again and since all are at home once again, seeing that most local universities are having their long three-month holidays, I can expect to get many requests from my kids for me to prepare certain dishes or anything that captures their fancy.
