Lasagna Bianca

Star Q

Our son and his wife usually comes home every fortnight, but due to some unforeseen circumstances, both of them were unable to keep up with that schedule.  Thus, after what seems like months, they finally had the opportunity to come home after four weeks.

Mac and Cheese 2.0

Star Q

I purposely call this dish Mac and Cheese 2.0 because the macaroni had been used to prepare two different types of dishes.  The first dish was where the macaroni was fried ala Malaysiana.  My wife had actually boiled a lot more macaroni than she wanted to use, so she kept the rest in the fridge.

Not My Mom's Baked Macaroni

Star Q

This endeavor started off as something which was supposed to be an adventurous one.  I had wanted to reproduce one of my late mom's pasta dish.  However, after considering the fact that it was a very elaborate dish, I opted for a simpler version; as usual!

Pasta Makanan Laut

Star Q

We have all but gotten a bit tired of having spaghetti carbonara, so much so that my kids don't request for them to be prepared anymore.  They tell me that with the instant carbonara sauces on sale (with many different brand names flooding the market!), they too can now make spaghetti carbonara on their own (even when I tell them never to use canned when you can easily make it from scratch!)

Mac and Cheese In A Hurry

Star Q

Last week Aidil Adha.  Initially we did not make any plans to go anywhere for the long weekend.  We did not even make arrangements to go back to our home towns.  We were contented to just stay home and celebrate Aidil Adha together as a family.  However the phone call made us change our minds.

Prawn Aglio Olio with Roasted Tomatoes

Star Q
This week is the mid-semester break for most universities and for this whole week my daughter who studies in Perlis is back.  My son who is studying in Serdang has decided not to come back for the holidays since he has a few more lab work to do.  He'll be coming back next weekend though.

Penne with Chicken Meatballs in Roasted Pepper Sauce

Star Q

This is another dish which I prepared along with the Murtabak Biskut Lemak.  It has become a routine for me to cook on weekends not least because my kids (and the missus!) want me to, but mostly because I find the activity rather therapeutic.

Tagliatelle with Chicken and Aubergine Tomato Sauce

Star Q

Besides Spaghetti Carbonara, another one of my kids favourite pasta dish is the simple Spaghetti with Tomato Sauce.  The only thing about this is, my kids prefer to have it not so simple by having the meatballs in their tomato sauce rather that minced meat.  And they often suggest (with praises to their dad's cooking so that they get their way!) that I make the meatballs myself rather than getting them from the freezer compartment of the supermarket!

Aubergine-Layered Lasagna

Star Q

I definitely believe that there is always something for me to learn every day when I read.  It doesn't really matter what I read; it can be magazines, newspapers, novels or even blogs or journals.  And the things that I learn from these materials that I read don't necessarily have to be something that changes the world.  It can be something like food nutrition.

Pasta Bakar/Baked Pasta Shells

Star Q

This is another simple dish that I prepared for a pot luck my friends and I had at the office the other day.  I actually made these a day in advance and kept them in the freezer.  Them?  I made five of the thing you see in the picture above!  I figured, since I was going to make something for my friends to eat, I might as well make sure they really eat!

Gnocchi and Tomato Bake

Star Q
iii.  Sukantara

I finally had the chance to prepare this dish!  All the reviews about how pillowy and sof t gnocchi is which I read in foodie blogs, were all true.  The gnocchi I prepared was indeed all that it was hyped to be.

3Cs Lasagna

Star Q

All the kids are home this weekend.  The house is noisy once again but in a good way.  Come to think of it, almost everyone has returned to their homes since tomorrow is polling day of the 13th General Election.  And before the missus and I go voting tomorrow, the kids have already voted among themselves, that today they want to eat something western.

Lunch Box #3 - Spaghetti and Meatballs

Star Q

No tuna sandwiches for me to take to work today.  Not because I have gotten tired of them but because I have some tomato sauce (not ketchup!) in the fridge and some chicken meatballs which I had previously made, stashed away in the freezer.

Spaghetti Carbonara Ala Malaysiana

Star Q

The preparation of this dish has been long overdue and my better half has been sulking due to the delay.  She has, in fact, been asking me to prepare it since way back, ever since she had the less than satisfactory verstion of this Spaghetti Carbonara at one of the so-called famous Pizza outlet! In fact, after one mouthful, she shoved the plate to me, and I, in turn, shoved it to one corner of the table; forgetting about it forever!

Tomato Provencal & Aglio Olio

Star Q

Who would ever think of having Spaghetti Aglio Olio and Tomato Provencal for Iftaar!  Especially when think an omnivore like me going vegetarian all the way.  One would think that this menu would be very bland (it is!) but when you take time to savor the dish, you will get to taste all the intricate ingredients (excuses of a tomato fanatic!)

Curry Spaghetti

You know the feeling when you just cannot come up with a three-dish meal (protein, vegetables and plus one more!) for a late lunch, especially after coming back from a day of shopping (tired!) and you finally resort to preparing something simple; a one-pot meal!  Every one has his own version of this very Malaysian dish, with all the spices that go into the gravy and the trimmings that go on top!

Fried Penne

Aaaaarrgh!  Today is the last day of the long school holidays!  For a moment there, I was shocked back into reality after more than one month of taking things easy and doing things I enjoy doing.  Not that I don't enjoy teaching, but I was having too much fun spending my holidays!  Well, no more lazy mornings and eating my breakfast slowly, chatting with the wife and kids and cooking!  Not until the next holidays, at least!  And talking about breakfast, today I prepared something for my family using some penne I had left from the Penne Bolognese I made previously; something simple yet satisfying for breakfast!  You will know it's simple from the way I arrange and sort the ingredients!

Penne Bolognese

I'm learning to be a bit adventurous with the dishes that I prepare and the one I prepared today is no exception.  You may know this recipe better by it's usual name that is Spaghetti Bolognese but I've decided to replace the spaghetti with penne.  And instead of putting the meatball sauce on top of the spaghetti and served, I've tried to layer the different ingredients of this pasta dish.

Actually the missus has been asking me to prepare Spaghetti Bolognese for quite some time now, but I have always found some excuse or other to get out of preparing it.  But since today is such a wonderful day and I'm in such a wonderful mood, I've decided to do it.  I did, however, tell her that I'm giving the dish a twist and she said it's okay.  Everyone loved the dish actually, except my second daughter who thought the tomato sauce was a bit sour (how many kilos of sugar did she expect me to put in the sauce??)  The preparation and ingredients are the same; only difference is the assembly!

Lip-smacking Lasagna

I have always had cravings for lasagna and have on one or two occasions satisfied them by having instant ones offered at a certain fast-food restaurant.  Even though the lasagna they had on the menu was seafood lasagna (I was shocked when I had it the first time!) I managed to swallow the layered pasta because of my craving.  I gave in to having instant and unsatisfactory lasagna only because I was too lazy to make one my own.

Well, the day finally came when my children decided that they too wanted some lasagna for lunch and I knew going to that fast-food restaurant would, firstly, take up a driving time of two hours to and back.  And secondly, it was cost me a small fortune to order lasagna for four!

So, once again, out of necessity, I decided to make my own lasagna (not that I have never made one before!)  But the version I decided to make was a vegetarian one, using two types of mushrooms to replace the meat!  See if you like the recipe.  If you do, be my guest and try it!

Super Spaghetti

Chicken Meatballs
Five days of preparing and executing a long list menu, was in a nutshell, demanding on the nerves and energy, so much so that I finally suggested that we have something simple for dinner tonight.  I proposed that we have my version of Spaghetti Bolognese; one with chicken meat balls instead of beef meet balls!
  • 1/2 kg minced chicken meat
  • a pinch of Italian herbs
  • some salt and pepper
Mix everything together, form into bite size balls and leave covered for about twenty minutes.  Then fry in a little oil until lightly browned.
Bolognese Boleh!
