Mee Hoon Goreng Tomyam

Okaylah.  Hari-hari sarapan makanan frozen pun jemu jugak kan.

250 gm isi ayam, dihiris nipis
3 ulas bawang putih - kisar
3 ulas bawang merah - kisar
4 sudu besar minyak masak
1/2 sudu teh serbuk lada putih
2 sudu besar pes tomyam (juga ada gambar wanita!)
2 helai daun limau purut muda, dihiris halus
Garam gula untuk perasa

Panaskan minyak dalam kuali.  Tumis bawang putih dan bawang merah.  Bila wangi masukkan ayam.  Bila ayam dah separuh masak, masukkan pes tomyam.  Kacau sehingga ayam betul-betul masak.  Kalau kering, masukkan sedikit air.  Masukkan lobak merah, lada putih dan perasa.  Masukkan mee hoon dan gaul rata.  Sebelum angkat, gaulkan daun limau purut.

Nota :  Mee hoon ini tidak memerlukan banyak air sebab ia cepat kembang.😊

Sohoon Goreng

Star Q

The second day of the week-long vegetarian meal request continues with this simple dish which I have prepared countless number of times since it is a favourite with my kids.  Taking that into consideration, I decided to make a vegetarian version of it.

Laksa Sarawak Parte Dos

Star Q

It has been quite some time since I had the pleasure of enjoying a bowl of Laksa Sarawak.  The last time I made it (can't remember when) I prepared it from scratch even when many of my Sarawak friends told me that it was much easier to use the ready-made spice mix.

Mee Wantan Sizzling

Star Q

This one of  those days when you ask every member of the family what they want to have for lunch and nobody has any idea what they want!  It makes the cook's life a bit more difficult because now he (me that is!) has to think of a dish that everybody likes.

Mee Goreng Mamak

Star Q
iii.  Pity for PT3

Recently we have been doing quite a lot of travelling; and during those travels we stopped at quite a few eating places for lunch.  One of the dishes that we never missed to order was anything related to 'goreng mamak'.

Mee Kari Rempah Wangi

Star Q

A few weekends ago I was literally left alone to my own resources at home.  My missus had gone to Tanjung Malim with her sisters, nieces and nephews to attend her brother's wedding reception.  And on the day that she was supposed to come home, I got a call from her asking me to  cook something.

Assam Laksa / Laksa In Sour Broth

Star Q

It has been a long time since I made this simple dish.  The reason behind this is because my youngest daughter does not like this dish at all; not one little bit.  I mean, she would rather eat instant noodles!  Of course she knows it has lots of vegetables, and yes she knows that there isn't a single ounce of fat in the dish, but hey, if she doesn't like it, she doesn't like it!

Koay Teow Goreng Vegetarian

Star Q

The days of open houses in conjunction with the recent Aidil Ftri celebrations have left a toll on my waist line among other things.  The chicken, the beef, the coconut cream and what not have numbed the taste buds somewhat.  So, it was a welcome change when the missus agreed with my suggestion to prepare something totally (sic) vegetarian for our lunch (and dinner!)

Koey Teow Ladna....Again

Star Q

Gastronomic challenges are usually more difficult in the month of Ramadhan especially when you have to face picky eaters like me; even though I only have one of them in my family.  But it always makes me feel so miserable when even a single person in my family doesn't seem to enjoy the food he (she) is eating.  Worse still when he simply wolf's down the plate of food which merely consist of rice and soya sauce! (I suppose this is done in protest against the food that he (she) doesn't like!)

Kerabu Suhun Lagi/Glass Noodles Salad ... Again

Star Q
i.  July MUET

The torch ginger flowers are blooming again!  Usually when we've got lots of them blooming at the same time, our neighbour would come over and ask for a few.  She's one of those Johoreans who needs to have a torch ginger flower or two in her Asam Pedas.

Koay Teow Ladna - ala Muazam

Star Q

This is really an adaptation of a dish I had when I was on the way home from Terengganu.  It was about 7.20 p.m. and the bus driver decided to stop by this roadside restaurant (I forgot the name!) so that everyone could have their dinner before continuing our journey.

Char Koay Teow

Star Q

The whole family was actually looking forward to a simple dinner!  Fried flat noodles (or Char Koay Teow) is something we usually have for breakfast.  But when the kids, there would be cockles and prawns in the dish,  they cheered with joy!

Asam Laksa - DKKD#4

Star Q

This is one of my favorite dishes mostly because it is an all-in-one dish (suitable for lazy people like me!)  and secondly because there isn't a single fat or oil or what-so-ever related to it (suitable for lazy people like me; lazy to exercise that is!)

Kuey Teow Ladna

Star Q

I don't usually take recipes from local magazines to try out in my tiny kitchen.  I specify local magazines because I have had a few disasters where the recipes did not result in similar looking dishes or cakes shown in the magazines.  In fact, some were totally inedible.

Chinese Curry Laksa

Star Q

Going to an all-boys school like Sekolah Sultan Abdul Samad in Petaling Jaya after oh-so-many years in co-ed schools was a thrilling experience, to say the least.  There are tonnes of experiences that I still cherish even until now, one of which is the food I ate.  Of course back then, there were no qualms about Muslims eating food prepared by Non-Muslims and they could sell food to all races in a government school.  Aaaah! Those were the days of racial-unity bliss!

Mee Suah Soup

Star Q

As you can very well see by now, my family and I don't live on rice alone.  In fact, we also enjoy other types of carbs other than rice.  And my kids don't complain either.  Of course, it is typical for most Malays to have rice every day (and some with Masak Lemak Cili Api every day, too!)

Sizzling Mee Suah

Star Q

Fasting month does not only affect my appetite during the breaking of fast, it also affects my appetite during Sahur.  It is especially during this time, around 5.00 o'clock in the morning, when you don't really feel like eating (more so because of sleepiness!) and every thing that goes into the mouth taste so peculiar! (eewww!)

Cellophane Noodles Kerabu #2

Star Q

You can never have too much of a good thing, and cellophane noodles (in what ever dish) is something my children can never have enough of!  I consider this a blessing in disguise, because I know how difficult it is to get children to eat their vegetables.  And if they like their vegetables in the form of this kerabu, then so be it; not matter how tedious it is to prepare!

Egg Noodle Soup ala Vietnamese

Star Q

One off my favourite cooking programme on telly is Taste Takes Off on Channel 703.  It is more of a documentary programme which takes the viewers to specific places, mainly in Australia, and introducing certain dishes from those places.

Sarawak Laksa

Entries in My Other Blogs :

Finally!!!  After years of waiting to savor how Sarawak Laksa tastes like, I finally got to really indulge in this much talked about delicacy from The Land of the Hornbills.  I have always heard people talking and raving about how delicious it is, and after trying it for the time, I couldn't agree with them more.
