Profiteroles / Cream Puff Nangka

Star Q

This is another nostalgic trip down memory lane.  Once in a while you get the urge to make something you have made before just for the memory.  I know that making cream puff is such a daunting task (to me at least!) but, aside from the memory, I'm making it because there was a request from the missus.

Simple Fried Chicken Thighs

Star Q

As usual, it's difficult to get children to eat what you prepare for them.  They only want to eat what they want and not what you want them to.  You would think that dishes containing fish, which is good for them, would make them happy.  However, they put the fish dishes at arms length no matter how flavoursome you have made the dishes to become.

Fried Rice Cubes with Prawns / Nasi Impit Goreng

Star Q

If I am not mistaken, this is my second entry spotlighting the humble rice cubes.  Most of us probably know it as a side dish for rendang during Eid Fitri or as accompaniment for Satay.  Also this type of cooked rice is also served with Soto or Bakso (which was shown in a previous entry of mine )

Prawns with Fermented Bamboo Shoots

Star Q

This is one of my children's favourite prawn dish or at least I thought it was.  It turned out they have grown out of favour for this dish, supposed because they have had this dish once too often.  Not even the RM36.00 per kilo prawns could entice them into finishing the dish!

Cherry Tarts

Star Q

I went to visit my dad last week and on the way back home decided to drop by one of the huge hypermarkets.  I was not really surprised to see an abundance of imported fruits being sold because it is after all still Lunar New Year.  I have always wanted to buy cherries but was always uncertain as to whether they would be sweet or otherwise.

Pomelo Salad with Tripe/Kerabu Limau Bali & Babat

Star Q

Chinese New Year sees a lot of fruits that we normally do not get all year round.  Unlike apples and oranges for example, Pomelos usually appear when it gets closer to celebrating the Luna New Year and slowly makes it exit almost after the fifteenth.  There are two main types of pomelos; the pink-fleshed ones and the white-fleshed ones.

Nasi Lemak Berlauk / Coconut Rice with Sides

Star Q

I just got back from visiting my dad in KL.  It's been nearly six months since we met; the last time was during last year's Eid Fitri.  A lot of things had been cropping up every time I made plans to visit him, but such is the situation in a teacher's life.  In fact, the school administrator suggested that we come back to work last Wednesday even though our school has got an extended one-week holiday for Chinese New Year.

Celebratory Carrot Cake

Star Q

No!  I'm afraid I did not make this to celebrate Chinese New Year!  Although, I would like to wish all my Chinese friends celebrating it a very happy and prosperous Luna New Year!

Blueberry and White Chocolate Muffins

Star Q

I just love blueberries.  It's just the way they explode in your mouth when you bite into a mouthful of cake!  It seems we've been importing more blueberries nowadays compared to strawberries.  I have noticed that there are no differences between the berries imported from Holland, Indonesia (yes! Indonesia) and Argentina (like this batch!)  All just as sweet!

Fish in Pomegranate Sauce

Star Q

There are many alternative health products in the market nowadays, making it a daunting task to choose one that suits you.  The fact that many people, including non-public figures, endorsing the products, makes the task an even more difficult one.

Steamed Corn Cakes / Kek Jagung Kukus

Star Q

Okay!  My sister, her husband and their five kids came over all the way from KL almost a week ago with my dad.  We had already cooked for lunch when my sister called, so we served them what was already prepared.  The only thing to make was something for tea.
