Fried Rice Cubes

Star Q

This may be an ordinary dish, but who would have thought that such an ordinary and humble dish can be so versatile and delicious.  In fact, Fried Rice Cubes is one of my children's favourite dishes, mainly because they can have any ingredients of their choice put inside it!

Tomato Quiche

Star Q

No, this is not the case of using-up-things-in-the-fridge!  This is merely diversifying the quiche recipe that I made much earlier (read two months ago!)  I now only realized how versatile quiche can be!  After scanning through recipe books (at bookstores!) and watching countless cooking programmes, I thought I'd try this one out!

Two-Berry Muffins

Star Q

I am a great believer in the phrase 'you are never too old to learn'.  Even at my age, I am learning something new about the cookery world every day.  In fact, I think, where learning is concerned, you can do it at any age as long as you have the determination and will to do so.

What Father's Day?

Star Q

This year's father's day has come and gone.  With all the hype the media has made about this day, father's day didn't really turn out as it was expected to be.  Television ads carried wishes by local artists to their dads and the newspapers carried stories about father/son/daughter relationships.  Even magazines carried special articles and recipes to celebrate the day.

Oaty Cherry Cookies

Star Q

It's the eighth day of the school holiday!  Mind you, I don't count weekends as school holidays since they are public holidays.  And according to my calculation, the school semester holiday, is in fact not sixteen days but only a mere ten days!

Anyway, back to the matter at hand.  The cookies are actually, once again, my youngest daughter's request.  Once again she has been hounding me about baking some cookies (the same last time we made Sultana and Raisin Rock Drops!) and today I gave her some of my cook books for her to go through and choose a cookie recipe.  And this is what she has chosen; one by Mary Cadogan from GoodFood magazine!

Gulai Landak Seri Sendayan

Star Q

Yes! It is the real 'landak'!!!  It has been a long (read looooooong!) time since I got my hands on this elusive creature!  Actually, many moons ago, it was my late mom who handled everything about this creature!  My dad, being in the army then, had many opportunities to hunt this creature, and also the mousedeer (poor Sang Kancil!)

Well, anyway, back to present day.  This time around, I was given a small portion (hence the small portion shown in the picture!) by my brother-in-law who lives in Sendayan (hence, the name of this dish!)  But the preparation of the ingredients I owe it to my late mum, who reminded me then, that when cooking exotic creatures one must either use a lot of herbs or spices to hide the natural odour ot the animal.

Cheese Swirl Cake

Star Q

My son is going back to campus again.  He's been here since last Saturday, for his study week.  Well, he's wise enough to spend only a few days of his study week here and the rest in campus.  At least when he's there, the aura of other flatmates studying will rub off onto him.
