Sarawak Laksa

Entries in My Other Blogs :

Finally!!!  After years of waiting to savor how Sarawak Laksa tastes like, I finally got to really indulge in this much talked about delicacy from The Land of the Hornbills.  I have always heard people talking and raving about how delicious it is, and after trying it for the time, I couldn't agree with them more.

Velvet Cheese Brownies

Entries in My Other Blogs :

I actually didn't dare put the word 'Red' in front of velvet because the cake did not really turn out to be red.  In any case, I purposely put in less of the red coloring because I don't like too much coloring in my food, even cakes (unless if I really have to!)  It's not even pink like anymz's recipe!  And I also omitted the word 'marble' (as Izahdaut puts in her recipe) because mine didn't have any marbling!

Anyway, I went ahead with making the brownies because I just like the way it looked in anymz's blog and that it would make a nice potluck contribution for our form six teachers' do!  Unfortunately, I heard much later that a few other teachers hinted about not getting the brownies!  Well my friends, Insya Allah, I will make some more and let you have a taste, too.

East Meets West Roast Chicken

Entries in My Other Blogs :

It's just the two of us at home today; me and my daughter!  The missus had gone to her sister's place yesterday to send our other daughter back there to further her studies.  I didn't go with because it was a school day (yes! yet another Saturday!  Thankfully, it's the last for this year!)  Anyway, it saves a lot travelling by train than having me to send them there because it's not just the cost of the journey but also the money that we spend during the many pit-stops that we make all along the journey and back!

Apam Suka-Suki

Entries in My Other Blogs :

Oh, well!  I had to get into the craze of making this 'apam'.  I actually first saw it in DayangJack's blog and was totally flabbergasted by the sheer beauty of her creation.  Now, I have never been a fan of 'apam' and have always preferred baked goods than steamed ones.  However, I thought to myself, there's always a first time for everything and I was game to give it a try.  But, I must confess, I call my steamed cake 'Apam Suka-Suki' because I had fun doing it and also, it didn't turn out as pretty as those of the other foodie bloggers!

Smoked Chicken Gravy with Fermented Herbs

Entries in My Other Blogs :

I was not surprised to see my former boss at the canteen the other day.  However, what did surprise me was that she was selling chickens that she reared herself.  I guess she's keeping herself busy after her retirement and it seems her pass time is proving to be quite a lucrative business!

Lunch Box Potato Salad

Entries in My Other Blogs :

It's tough having to think of different and interesting types of food to put in your lunch-box and take to work.  Plus you hope that whatever food you bring will be able to sustain you until you reach home in the evening.  For me, bringing food to work is nothing new, because I have been doing this ever since I was in primary school; beginning from the age of seven!

Spongebob's Enchiladas

No!  I didn't get this recipe from the Sponge that lives in a pineapple under the sea!  This is just a namesake of Spongebob Squarepants.  What actually happened was, my daughter saw one of Spongebob's episode on television one day, and the yellow sponge kept repeating the name of the dish he was eating!  Enchiladas!  Enchiladas!  She kept asking me what it was (she pronounced it wrongly initially, so I didn't know what she was saying!) and knowing that it was something that can be eaten she wanted to make some!

Leek Kerabu

Entries in My Other Blogs :

I've really ran out of ideas on what to have for lunch during weekends.  Sometimes when I prepare something elaborate, my critics will just give a 3 out of 10 review.  But, sometimes when I prepare something simple, I get a ten over ten review.  It just goes to show that something good does not have to be be elaborate, expensive or difficult to prepare.  In fact it can be something simple, as simple as this Leek Kerabu.

Lazy Man's Pizza

Entries in My Other Blogs :

11th April was a special public holiday here in conjunction with the official Coronation of His Majesty the Yang Di Pertuan Agong.   And in conjunction with the special holiday, my children made some special requests about what they wanted to have for tea.  I had two separate requests from two separate children (two are at home, while the other one is still away!)  But, I gladly obliged because, I don't know, I guess I enjoy it!

Best Guava Juice In Muar!

My Entries in Other Blogs :

There is guava juice and there is the guava juice!  I had to make an entry about this particular guava juice before I totally forget about it!  This is because I will not be travelling by that neck of the woods anymore (knock on wood!) since my daughter has finished her Form Five in one of the schools over there!

But for the past two years, travelling to and fro Muar to visit my daughter, I have more often than not dropped by that small hawker stand near the river (forgot the name but it's near an electricity sub-station1)  to purchase their guava juice!  Well, if it wasn't me, it would either be the missus of my daughter!  We even sometimes, buy the guava juice concentrate to take home!

Beef Bolognese Roll

Entries in My Other Blogs :

I remember, once upon a time, many moons ago, my late mum making her rolled up curry puffs; not the semi-circular ones where you crimp the edges.  Hers was rolled up and then twisted into a bun, almost like a chignon, then cut into sizable portions and baked.

I have always wanted to try making her rolled curry puff which she called 'Karipap Sanggul Mak Inang'; a beautiful name and one that is so apt, considering the shape of the roll is just like a lady's hair bun!  But I have always been afraid that what I might come up with, will not do her or the dish justice.

Strawberry Coffee Cake

Entries in My Other Blogs :

I was made to understand that the first question that many novice bakers like myself would ask when it comes to coffee cake is, 'Why call it coffee cake when there's no coffee in it?'  I was also made to understand that the term coffee cake is totally American and that the cake is usually served for breakfast with coffee, hence the name, coffee cake!

Creamy Buttery Prawns

Entries in My Other Blogs :

I am so used to making things in small batches for fear that there be wastage; like whenever I bake, I always reduce the quantities of the ingredients by half.  This is even more so when I prepare dishes.  The main reason for this is, most of my family members have very local taste buds and are open to very few western dishes or new ones!

No-Bake Strawberry Cheesecake

I have always been intimidated by this no-bake cheesecake, even though I have made quite a few baked ones (recipes to follow in the near future, God willing!)  It's just I have always been apprehensive about the use of gelatin in the making of desserts.  And thus I shied away from such recipes!

Guacamole Gua!

Sometimes I get these hunger pangs somewhere between lunch and dinner, which may be normal to other people.  However, in my case, these hunger pangs come too soon after lunch and to wait for dinner is a torture.  I wonder if I'm getting my daughter's habit who seem to be hungry every now and then!

Chicken and Portobello Strudel

I just got back from Seremban.  I guess age is catching up with me because the one and a half hour drive to Gemas has taken its toll on my energy.  Upon reaching home, I found myself tired and not in the mood to do anything but to lie down and take a nap.
